(patikan kebo) is one of the Indonesian medical plants used by some women to increase lactation process. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of patikan kebo extract as lactogogum of mother-rats. The doses of the extract patikan kebo were administred orally to the mother-rats, i.e 812.4 mg, 81.24 mg, and 8.124 mgper 100 g body weight respectively. Moloco 1/10 tab (placental extr 1.5 mg) and aquadest solvent are used as control groups. The doses were administered once per day to the mother-rats, starting from 6th up to 21st day after labour. Mother-rats breast milk were estimated based on the increasing bodyweight of litters after feeding divided by milk density (1.030) plus the residual milk. Observations of breast milk volume and prolactin hormon of mother rats were done in the 6th, 11th, 16th, and 21st, day. The result showed that patikan kebo extract was not able to increase breast milk volume and prolactin hormon of the mother rats as measured in the varying periods, but there was a significant difference between the dose of 81.24 mg per 100g b.w. compared with the control (aquadest solvent) group of increasing bodyweight of the litters from 6th up to 21st day.QY 50-110 Laboratory Animals.
