The PSG data were taken before and after the economic crisis hit Indonesia. The study aimed to assess nutritional status of children under five years old in relation to the crisis. The study was carried out in Bogor city, and district of Tanggerang and Bekasi. Thirty villages were selected randomly from each area: 20 poor villages and 10 non-poor villages. In each selected village : one posyandu (Intergrated Health Post), which was used for PSG in 1996, was sellected. Ten children were selected randomly in each posyandu. Body weight and height of the children were measured in addition to that of the PSG data. The data of the 1996 PSG were analysed and compared to the 1999 PSG. Results of PSG showed that overall, percentage of under weight in non-poor villages was not different before than during crisis, but in poor villages it was significantly diffrent. Percentage of under-weight in Tanggerang, both poor and non-poor villages, was not different before and during the crisis but higher in Bekasi and lower in Bogor. Nutritional status in 1999 based on 3 incides Wt/A, Ht/A and Wt/Ht showed that Bekasi was the best compared to that in Tanggerang and Bogor. Percentage of under weight in Bekasi was the lowest (30%). The conclusion is that economic crisis had negative impact both in non-poor and poor villages. Percentage of over weight in non-poor villages decreased while in poor villages the percentage of under weight increased.WS 113-141 Child Care. Nutrition.
