Only paired; acute and convalescence specimens, total of 689, fulfilled the criteria for the analysis. The positivity rate of these paired sera was 43,54%, which is slightly lower compared with 50,41 % that was observed in 1990. There was an increase in number of submitted specimens to the laboratory, starting from January, with two peaks in May and June, followed with gradual decline from July through December 1991. No significant difference was observed among sex of patients. The mode of age of patients were 5 -15 years old, however sera from older patients (> = 60 years) were also submitted for examination.
