Surveys Mortality and morbidity are health status indicators. Mortality rate has high correlation with morbidity status. Trend of cause of death is needed to evaluate the heatth program. This study aimed to analyzed the trend of cause of death of infant and children during 1992-2001 by resident and region characteristic. The descriptive analysis include data Household Health Survey (HHS) 1992, 1995, 2001. The cases are mortality cases of infant (<1 year old) and childhood (1-4 years old). Based on these cases, 10 cases of death and the trend of death were analysed. The major causes of death of infant are perinatal, respiratory system diseases and diarrhea. The major causes of death of childhood (1-4 years old) are respiratory system diseases, diarrhea and neurologic diseases. They are various patterns of cause of death in urban and rural, also between Region Sumatera, Jawa-Bali and KTI (East Indonesia Region). The seven major causes of death in under five children are perinatal, respiratory system diseases, neurologic diseases, digestive system diseases, thypoid, tetanus, measles. The major causes of death in under five children in Indonesia have the same pattern with them in South East Asia Region.
