Maka perlu diketahui kontributor dari disabilitas. Tujuan untuk mengetahui kontributor disabilitas agar dapat dirancang intervensi yang dapat mengurangi disabilitas. Survei Riset Kesehatan Dasar 2007 dilaksanakan di 33 provinsi, 452 kabupaten di Indonesia dengan menggunakan kerangka sampel susenas. Distress emosional merupakan kontributor tertinggi terhadap 5 domain disabilitas (3,4≤0R≤4,7; 3,3≤CI≤4,9) kecuali perawatan diri dengan kontributor terbesar penyakit stroke (OR=6,6; 6≤CI≤7,2). Selain kedua kondisi tersebut, penyakit sendi merupakan penyakit urutan ketiga yang menyebabkan disabilitas dengan risiko mendekati atau lebih dari dua kali pada ke 6 domain disabilitas.
