Namun masih banyak ditemukan kejadian luar biasa (KLB) penyakit campak di Indonesia. Hal ini kemungkinan ada hubungannya dengan terjadi mutasi gen strain virus campak yang beredar di Indonesia sehingga terdapat perbedaan antigenisitas strain virus vaksin dengan straim virus campak liar yang beredar di Indonesia. Untuk mengetahui adanya mutasi strain virus campak liar dilakukan genotyping virus campak yang berhasil diisolasi dengan metode Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) dan Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP) gen F dan gen N. Hasil genotyping virus liar dibandingkan dengan virus vaksin CAM 70 yang digunakan sebagai vaksin di Indonesia. Perbedaan antigenesitas virus vaksin CAM 70 dan virus liar dilakukan dengan uji netralisasi serta tes imunoblot antara antibodi pasca imunisasi dan antibodi penderita campak. Dari 40 serum anak-anak pasca imunisasi didapat 29 (72,5%) serum positif lg G dan 19 anak penderita campak dari DKI Jakarta serta 20 anak dari Lampung positif lg M. Isolasi virus campak liar berhasil dilakukan dari Lampung dan dari Jogyakarta.
