Sampel terdiri dari 185 seri darah yang meliputi darah ibu pada saat melahirkan, darah bayi waktu lahir (plasenta) dan setelah bayi umur 2 bulan. Penyaringan sampel untuk mengetahui HBsAg dengan cara RPHA (Reverse Passive Haemagglutination) pada semua darah ibu. Hasil yang positif diteruskan dengan pemeriksaan ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) untuk mengetahui HBsAg, anti HBS, anti HBC, HBeAg dan anti HBe. Pada pemeriksaan HBsAg secara RPHA dengan HBsAg positip dan dilanjutkan dengan ditemukan 44 ibu pemeriksaan ELISA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa frekuensi HBsAg ibu sebesar 3% (6/185). Anti HBs ditemukan pada 12 (27,2%) ibu dengan titer yang cukup melindungi (>10 IU/L). Dari 4 ibu dengan HBeAg positip 3 bayi dilahirkan dengan HBsAg dan HBeAg positip, namun pada umur 2 bulan tingga1 2 bayi dengan HBsAg dan HBeAg positip. Pada satu ibu ditemukan anti HBc positip dan ternyata dan menurun pada bayinya, sedangkan anti HBe ditemukan pada 2 orang ibu.
