Dengan ditemukannya rotavirus sebagai penyebab utma dan terpenting dari gastroenteritis akut, maka hal ini akan merubah penatalaksanaan pengobatan diare akut terutama dalam penggunaan antibiotik yang perlu dibatasi dan hanya akan diberikan atas indikasi yang jelas dan sekaligus menguatkan pendapat bahwa ASI yang banyak mengandung faktor proteksi terhadap rotavirus yaitu S.IgA perlu diberikan terus walaupun bayi menderita diare.
