TY - RPRT TI - PENELITIAN LARVA TOXORHYNCHITES SEBAGAI MEDIA ISOLASI VIRUS DENGUE DI JAKARTA AV - none N2 - Dengue virus infection is very prevalent in Indonesia and is getting spread to other area and potentially to other countries. Dengue infection is therefore one among many major health problem which should be properly controlled. One problem which has to be resolved for maximizing the above mentioned disease control and historically has presented certain difficulties to the arbovirus laboratory is the afficacy of identification of isolation dengue viruses. Suckling mice have been used for many years in the isolaation of dengue viruses, but the results could take-up to several weeks before typing results were known. The use vertebrate cell cultures such as vero, LLCCMK2 and PS cells has helped to spead up the laboratory diagnosis of dengue infections, but the method is technically difficult, expensive and requires 3 to 4 weeks for virus identification by plaque reduction neutrlization test. In relation to thee above mentioned, larvae of Toxorhynchites mosquitoes showed promise in detection of dengue type-2 antigen following intra cerebral inoculation of the prototype virus. The introduction of mosquitoes inoculation for dengue diagnosis has improved not only the sensitivity but also reduced the time needed for isolation.
