Sejak tahun 1968 hingga tahun 2009, World Health Organization (WHO) mencatat negara Indonesia sebagai negara dengan kasus DBD tertinggi di Asia Tenggara. Penyakit ini ditularkan oleh nyamuk Aedes aegypti yang membawa virus Dengue. Repellent dapat mengurangi paparan terhadap gigitan nyamuk. Salah satu bahan alami yang di dalamnya terkandung senyawa sebagai repellent adalah bunga lawang (I. verum). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menentukan daya tolak bunga lawang (I. verum) terhadap nyamuk Ae. aegypti. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian eksperimental laboratorium dengan rancangan penelitian post test only with control group design. Sampel penelitian menggunakan nyamuk Ae. aegypti betina yang kenyang larutan gula 10% dan berusia 3-5 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persentase daya proteksi minyak atsiri bunga lawang (I. verum) konsentrasi 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% dan 50% selama 6 jam pengamatan berturut-turut adalah 58,1%, 63,51%, 59,95%, 49,45% dan 65,32%. Nilai tersebut < 90%, oleh karena itu minyak atsiri bunga lawang (I. verum) tidak efektif digunakan sebagai repellent.
