Dari penelitian terdahulu telah diketahui bahwa periodisitas dari penyakit ini di dalam tubuh manusia adalah "nocturnal periodic". Penelitian infeksi alamiah dan eksperimental menunjukkan bahwa empat spesies nyamuk dari genus Mansonia (bonneae, dives, annulata dan uniformis) merupakan vektor utama dari Brugia malayi di daerah ini. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bionomik dari vektor filariasis di Bengkulu sebagai dasar penelitian selanjutnya. Pada sepanjang tahun penangkapan ini kepadatan populasi nyamuk dari semua genera adalah sangat rendah.
