Mungkin Steroid yang dikandung mempunyai efek estrogenik sehingga dapat mencengah atau mengembalikan uterus yang mengalami atrofi akibat ovarektomi. Oleh karena itu dilakukan penelitian pengaruh ekstrak herba Physalis minima L dan akar Costus speciosus Smith terhadap organ reproduksi tikus yang diovarektomi menurut Fasrasworth et al. Untuk menentukan besarnya dosis penelitian serta kesamaan pemakaian dilakukan pula penelitian toksisitas akut bahan menurut cara Weil.CS. Hasil penelitian meunjukkan bahwa ekstrak alkohol 75%, herba Physalis minima L. dan akar Costus speciosus Smith termasuk bahan yang tidak toksik dan mempunyai pengaruh terhadap susunan syaraf pusat maupun susunan syaraf otonum. Ekstrak a1kohol 75% herba Physalis minima L.dosis 0,91 mg dan 9,1 mg/100 g bobot badan dapat mencegah atrofi uterus pada tikus yang diovarektomi. Pada dosis 91 mg/100 g bobot badan efeknya berkurang. Ekstrak akar Costus speciosus Smith dosis 116,7 mg /100 g bobot badan menunjukan ·adanya indikasi pencegahan/pengembalian atrofi uterus pada tikus yang diovareh1omi.
