As only the oil is extracted the protein is left in the presscake. The Philippines and India have already done considerable research on the recovery of the protein from coconut intended for human use. It has become apparent that the protein is of good quality. Already in 1966 our Unit Diponegoro started with the determination of the Net Protein Utilization value of the protein of coconut meat and copra meal, but it was discontinued. Only when in the beginning of 1977 desiccated coconut flour and coconut meal or presscake as flakes became available in sufficient quantities, these experiments were continued and they are still in progress.
