N2  - Sagameal (Adenanthera Pavonina Linn.), defatted using n- hexane, moist-heat treated such as boiling or steaming, supplemented with methionine and threonine, and fed as the main component or as the single source of protein in experimental diets for young weanling albinorats, are nowwell consumed by the rats and they do not show anymore a depressed growth. From these observations it is concluded that the sagameal is detoxified through the process of extraction of the oil with n-hexane and that the substance toxic forthe young weanling albinorats is present in the oil fraction of the saga. The ordinary household procedures of moist-heat treatment such as boiling or steaming r roves to be adequate or sufficient for inactivating e18 anti-nutritive factors (trypsin inhibitors, haemagglutinins and saponins). The improved growthpromoting effect of the supplementation with methionine and bonine confirms the finding that these amino acids are indeed the most limiting amino acids in the sagaprotein.
