        <dc:title>Family Food Consumption Patterns in Indonesia</dc:title>
        <dc:creator>Lie, Goan-Hong</dc:creator>
        <dc:subject>QU 145-220 Nutrition. Vitamins</dc:subject>
        <dc:description>In a given country, foodconsumption patterns and the quantity of the&#13;
food consumed are determined by 3 groups of factors, i.e. &#13;
a. Physical factors, such as : &#13;
Geography, climate, soil, determining which kind of food can be &#13;
grown, transport and distribution, population density etc.·&#13;
b. Economic factors, such as the level of income which determines the&#13;
purchasing power of the family and therefore the availability&#13;
of food to the family.&#13;
c. And a host of other factors, such as social, cultural, religious,&#13;
political factors, state of environmental sanitation etc.&#13;
All these groups of factors interact in a very complex way, and d&#13;
determine the foodintake or consumption of the family.&#13;
The result of this foodintake is reflected in the nutritional state&#13;
of the population or .the family in its broadest sense of meaning.&#13;
However the nutritional state in especially when there is malnutrition&#13;
in the population, cannot be efficiently improved without considering the factors and conditions which determine the occurrence and distribution of the nutritional health of the population. One of the tools to study thesefactors and conditions is the study of the food conSUI!lption in the population. It must be realized that the analysis of food consumption patterns will give only supporting evidence to the clinical and anthropometrical&#13;
findings. On the ether hand, the analysis is most important as it also will show what kind of food and how much of each de people eat. In this way the data will be a very useful guide in the effort for further&#13;
improvement of the diet of the population.</dc:description>
