%C Jakarta %L bkpkkemkes4654 %K unknown toxic, sagabean, Adenanthera Pavonina %X New evidence is presented to strengthen our presumption on the reported presence of an as yet unkno\fll toxic substance(e) in the sagabean (Adenanthera Pavonina Linn.) This toxic substance(e) must be quite different from the already wellknown anti-nutritive factors so common in legumeseeds and therefore in the sagabean also. To inactivate or to leach out the various anti-nutritive factors present, the raw saga beans were subjected to an elaborate process of crushing, decortication, soaking (steeping) with repeated washings and boiling with enough water of the spilt cotyledons. After drying and grinding, the obtained sagameal was fed to young weanling albino rats according to a specific welldefined procedure (PER or growthsudy). From the results of this feeding experiment the conclusion is drawm that in the treated sagabeans there is indeed an unknown toxic factor which is not (or partially ?) eliminated by the process. Further investigations are in progress to obtain more information on this toxic substance(s). %T More Evidence on the Presence of an Unknown Toxic Substance(s) in the Sagabean %I Badan Penelitian dan Pengembangan Kesehatan %D 1983 %A Oey Kam Lie %A J.
