TY - UNPB KW - soybean ; proteinrich foods ; saga seed N1 - Unpublished PB - Badan Penelitian dan Pengembangan Kesehatan Y1 - 1980/// N2 - In the first report dated March 15, 1980 on the investigation of the nutritive value of saga seeds (Adenanthera pavonina LINN), using feeding trials with young growing albino rats, it was concluded that : 1. Raw, saga contains an anti-nutritive or toxic factor for young growing albino-rats. This factor cannot be (completely) destroyed or removed by ordinary household steaming. 2. This toxic factor present in the suga bean, if consumed by young albino-rats, can be tolerated if the steamed saga meal was fed together with other source s of protein such as rice. It was concluded that the availability of other good sources of protein in the diet have an ameliorating or protective effect against this toxic substance(s). 3. Steaming of the raw saga for half an hour could not reduce the toxic effect of this substance present in the sage bean. 4. As the amino acids content of the saga protein is not yet known, it was postulated that the amino acid pattern of the saga protein must be somewhat similar, although probably not better than the amino acid pattern of soybean protein.
