Prevalensi anemi pada wanita hamil di pedesaan adalah 46-77 (Martoatmodjo dkk, 1973) sedangkan pada pekerja kasar 30-30 (Karyadi dkk, 1973). Golongan remaja merupakan kelompok calon pembangunan negara pada masa yang akan datang, karenanya penelitian tentang anemi dan faktor penyebabnya pada kelompok ini mutlak penting. Pada golongan ini akibat yang mungkin timbul adalah yang berhubungan dengan konsentrasi dan prestasi belajar.
