Penyakit ini sebelumnya terabaikan. Mengingat penyebaran yang sangat luas di Indonesia maka bila tidak ditangani dengan baik dapat menyebabkan kecacatan dan stigma psikososial yang berdampak pada penurunan produktifitas penderita. Penyebab utama filariasis adalah cacing dari spesies W. bancrofti, B.malayi dan B.timori. Sedangkan vector dari penyakit ini adalah nyamuk dari genus Culex, Mansonia, Anopheles, Aedes dan Armigeres. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi nyamuk vector penyebab filariasis yang ada di Kalimantan selatan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan survey nyamuk pada desa terpilih dengan metode landing collection dan survey darah jari untuk mengetahui mf rate di daerah tersebut. Hasil dari penelitian ini didapatkan nyamuk vector di wilayah penelitian adalah C.quinquifasciatus dan M.uniformis dan nyamuk yang potensial sebagai vector adalah Cx.puscocophalus, Cx. tritaeniorhynchus, Cx.bitaeniorhynchus, An.barbirostris, Ae.albopictus, Ae.aegypti dan An.umbrosus.
