The knowledge of mothers of severe ARI symptoms and immediately seeking modern treatment in severe ARI cases will decrease the mortality rate in infant and children under five. The National Socio-Economic Survey (SUSENAS) 1998 has identified mothers who had infants and children under five years old who suffered cough, colds, fever as well as the treatment choices in one month before the survey. This paper analyzed the pattern and the determinants of health seeking behavior of ARI. The analysis method was descriptive and analytical with simple logistic regression (P<0.25 for candidate covariate) and multiple logistic regression (P<0.05). The results showed that from 83,656 infants and children under five years old, 47.1% did self treatment, 66.3% went to health facilities and 0. 7% chose traditional healers (dukun). Almost one third (28.5%) of mothers chose health center (puskesmas), 14.7% chose doctor's private practice and 14.5% chose paramedic' s private practice. Mothers with low educational level prefers to go to traditional healers. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that the health seeking behavior of ARI of mothers of infant and children under five years old was influenced by educational level of the mother, the ratio of food expenditure to total expenditure (as a proxy of economic variable), age of the children, and number of the children under five years old in the household.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">WS 200-342 Diseases of Children and Adolescents</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8601">2001</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>Badan Penelitian dan Pengembangan Kesehatan</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Article</mods:genre></mets:xmlData></mets:mdWrap></mets:dmdSec><mets:amdSec ID="TMD_eprint_990"><mets:rightsMD ID="rights_eprint_990_mods"><mets:mdWrap MDTYPE="MODS"><mets:xmlData><mods:useAndReproduction>
