N2  - One of the empirical effects of pinang seed or jambe ( Areca catechu L.) is the shedding of menstrual period (emenogoga) and some bibliography said that pinang seed contain abortive compound; which is also potentially teratogenic.       The objectives of this study are to learn about the effects of pinang seed infusion to pregnant mouse by observing the number of fetus, the amount of resorption, the number of abortion and physical defects on the fetus born. The infusion was given orally on the 3rd and 5th day of pregnancy to observe the prenatal death.       The results show that dosage of 211, 422 and 844 mg/kg of body weight that was administered orally to pregnant mouse of implantation phase influence the degree of abortion statistically significant (50%) and there is no teratogenic effect.
