History of the Health Development Policy Agency

As stipulated in Presidential Regulation Number 161 of 2024, one of the functions carried out by the Ministry of Health is 1. Formulation, determination, and implementation of policies in the field of primary and community health, disease control, advanced health, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and health human resources; 2. Implementation of technical guidance and supervision of the implementation of the Ministry's affairs in the regions; and 3. Coordination of the implementation of tasks, coaching, and provision of administrative support to all elements of the organization within the Ministry.

The Health Development Policy Agency (BKPK) is a transformation of the Health Research and Development Agency (Balitbangkes) based on the Regulation of the Minister of Health Number 5 of 2022 concerning the Organization and Work Procedures of the Ministry of Health. To strengthen the role of BKPK in supporting evidence-based policy-making in the health sector, Permekes Number 21 of 2024 has been issued where the organizational structure of BKPK consists of five echelon 2 units, namely the Agency Secretariat; Center for Health Effort Policy; Center for Health Resilience System Policy; Center for Health Resource Policy; and Center for Global Health Strategy and Governance Policy.
